How would you code a transbronchial biopsy of the left lower lobe of the lung with BAL washings, but with no lung tissue identified on the pathology report?

Laureen Jandroep answered this question during the July 2015 Q&A Webinar. She discussed what a BAL was and why this test is done. You can use code 31624, Bronchoscopy, rigid of flexible, including fluoroscopic guidance, when performed, with bronchial alveolar lavage. It doesn't matter that nothing was found, the diagnostic test was still done.
